Video game news ramped up this week (not that it ever really slows down). From new releases to new release dates to everything in between, here are the biggest highlights from the last seven days.
Release date for Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
MGS fans have been dying for any news on the remake of the 2004 PS2 classic. The good news is that the PlayStation Store (accidentally?) posted the release date: August 28! Honestly there's not much more to it than that; it's nice to finally have a release date and know that we'll be playing it before summer ends, assuming they didn't post it with an erroneous date.
Updates on HBO's The Last of Us season 2
We got two interesting updates from HBO regarding the second season of The Last of Us. First up is the news that some of the "lost levels" that made it into the Part 2 Remaster will be part of the second season. These are the the Jackson Party, The Hunt, and Seattle Sewers. Those first two aren't anything super crazy, but "Seattle Sewers" has Ellie being stalked by monsters in the sewers of Seattle, which could be pretty harrowing.
The other interesting tidbit that came out in that interview with Entertainment Weekly is that the timeline for season 2 isn't going to faithfully follow how Part 2 is laid out. Which... many of us who have played the game have wondered how they'd handle that.
My biggest issue with Part 2 was how the story unfolded (swapping between Ellie and Abby makes sense, but you should have played as Abby first, narratively speaking). And I've been interested to see if they would toy around with it. Part 2 feels like it works better as a show and not a video game, so I'm holding out hope that they structure it better.
We'll find out when the first episode of season 2 airs sometime in April!
New releases this week: Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2
If you want an RPG, boy is Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 the game for you. It sold 1 million copies in its first 24 hours, and Metacritic has it as the highest rated game in 2025 so far with an 88 from critics.
It's a pretty intense RPG that can take hours to get into, but if you're still uncertain, Gameranx has their standard "Before You Buy" for some guidance:
Take Two insists GTA VI is still coming
Much like George RR Martin on South Park, Take Two is insisting that Grand Theft Auto VI is still on schedule to release in fall 2025. That's great news for GTA fans. And yet with how many delays there have been in the video game industry in the last five years, we're still skeptical and want developers to take their time with their games.
Capcom Spotlight and Monster Hunter Wilds showcase
Capcom held their latest Spotlight earlier in the week, which gave us a ton of new information, including more Open Beta 2 details for Monster Hunter Wilds, more details on Onimusha: Way of the Sword, apparently an Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny remaster, and a May 16 release date for Capcom Fighting Collection 2. You know. Just to name a few things.
You can watch both of them down below.
