The video game news runs rampant this week, as we had two different showcases for Sony and Xbox to usher in new looks at upcoming games and brand new announcements.

But we're going to start with the one we've been waiting for the entire summer.

Stardew Valley 1.6 update for consoles

It's here! It's finally here! Well, almost. ConcernedApe took to Twitter to let console gamers know that the 1.6 update for Stardew Valley is releasing on November 4th. The official tweet is below and if you scroll through some of the responses, ConcernedApe gives some insight into what it will entail and why exactly it took so long to make it to console:

More details on the Annapurna Interactive exodus

IGN released a pretty lengthy dive into what happened with Annapurna Interactive. If you're interested at all in the behind-the-scenes looks at gaming developers, it's an incredibly interesting read. Apparently none of them knew about the deal with Remedy Entertainment! Insanity!

The Simpsons: Tapped Out ending in 2025

It's a mobile game, yes, but it's been around for 12 years and the TV show's been on longer than I've been alive. EA announced in an in-app popup for Tapped Out that the game will be ending in January 2025 with no new downloads after October.

As an avid The Simpsons fan, I played Tapped Out for the first four years it was around. The in-jokes and new buildings/costumes were always fun to try to get and it was a solid time-waster of a mobile app (and really, that's all you can ask for). It's always sad when a game ends, too.

Official trailer for season 2 of The Last of Us on MAX

Oh lord, if you want to feel all the feels today, just watch the trailer for season 2 of The Last of Us. If you played the game, you already know how heartbreaking it's going to be.

And the trailer already has us bracing for the worst. Jennifer has a great write up about it over here!

Assassin's Creed Shadows delayed to 2025

It wouldn't be a video game news week if we didn't have a video game delay! This time it's Assassin's Creed Shadows. Ubisoft announced the next installment is delayed until February 14, 2025, citing the lukewarm reception to Star Wars Outlaws. The game has also come under cultural fire due to the concerns around the historical accuracy of its Black samurai, so this delay isn't very shocking.

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom releases

It's here! It's finally here! Echoes of Wisdom releases on the Nintendo Switch this week. We can finally play as Zelda! And the reviews for it are absolutely stellar. We don't have anything else to say, we just need to go play it immediately.

The PlayStation State of Play and Xbox Tokyo Game Show 2024

We saved the biggest two for last, as Sony held another State of Play earlier in the week and gamers thought there would be some big news since the 30th anniversary stuff from last week fell a little flat. And then two days later, Xbox had an event at the Tokyo Game Show.

For the State of Play, while there wasn't a Bloodborne Remastered, Bloodborne 2, or Hollow Knight: Silksong, we did get an upcoming DLC for Stellar Blade that's crossing over with NieR: Automata, a first look at the harrowing, horrifying second DLC for Alan Wake II titled The Lake House, a release date for Monster Hunter: Wilds, and the biggest news for last: the sequel to Ghost of Tsushima titled Ghost of Yōtei, slated to release in 2025 and look just as gorgeous as the first game.

For Xbox at the TGS, they showed off new trailers for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Starcraft Remaster and Starcraft 2 are coming to Game Pass, and plenty of JRPGs to sate your JRPG wants for the foreseeable future.

What video game announcements from this week have you stoked? Let us know in the comments!
