The Fall Guy is another action movie coming to us this May

Like the action-adventure television series that came before it, The Fall Guy introduces the story of stunt professionals in the entertainment industry in a theatrical screening.

David Leitch's The Fall Guy opened the first of Friday in May starring Ryan Gosling as the quintessential leading man in an action-adventure, alongside Emily Blunt as an onscreen version of the female filmmaker in the industry. This high-speed chase action reboot from the 1980s television series introduced stunt professionals onscreen once again.

What was surprising in viewing an early screening of The Fall Guy is how similar the film feels compared to other action-adventure comedies released recently. It is amazing and, on the nose, how the trailer sells itself as the typical, high-speed chase comedy that audiences have not seen already.

What puts into question The Fall Guy's credibility is the casting director's decision to cast Ryan Gosling as the leading man. It could be the fact that Gosling has solid comedic timing which is shown in the trailer and his charismatic performance as Colt Seavers in which he banters back and forth with Emily Blunt's character.

What is appealing is how the film follows every trope in the book from page to page. The most entertaining thing about The Fall Guy is Gosling's electric and humorous energy he brings in his performance audiences of all genders love his film.

The most interesting part about The Fall Guy is Hannah Waddingham's character who is in the first to almost second act when Gosling leaves to rescue the star that he is the stuntman for. While seated in a dark auditorium, I heard belly laughter coming from the other patrons when Gosling appeared onscreen with Blunt and other actors. At times, even some of the jokes are a miss and go over audiences' heads.

Overall, The Fall Guy is a passing B- as an entertaining action blockbuster to kick off the first Friday of May and the almost start of summer.
