When you hear that there is some news about Kate McKinnon out, you expect it to be about a new movie and TV role. You don't expect it to be about a book, let alone a middle-grade adventure book. But that's the latest that just came out about the Barbie actor. Kate McKinnon is writing a new book for kids!

The book is titled The Millicent Quibb School of Etiquette For Young Ladies of Mad Science, and according to the book cover, the story is actually by G. Edwina Candlestank who only heard the story from Kate McKinnon. That penname is perfection, and just from the title alone, you know it's good, It's kind of reminiscent of McKinnon's role in Ghostbusters. But what is the book about?

The book, which is the first in a series, follows the Porch Sisters. This includes Gertrude, Eugenia, and Dee-Dee. It also, of course, follows the town's mad scientist, Millicent Quibb. The girls are outcasts in their town and in their family, but when they are expelled from etiquette school, they are sent to a place they could have never imagined.

Beyond the writing, the book will also include original art from McKinnon as well. Take a look at one of her drawings below!

Kate McKinnon first novel out in October

For the full description of the story, check out the synopsis from the press release:

"Gertrude, Eugenia, and Dee-Dee Porch do not belong. They don’t belong in the snooty town of Antiquarium, where all girls must go to etiquette school and all dogs must be bichon frises. They don’t belong with their adoptive family: their uptight Aunt Desdemona, their materialistic Uncle Ansel, and their seven snide cousins, who are all named Lavinia. And they certainly don’t belong at Mrs. Wintermacher’s etiquette school—they’re far more interested in machines and slugs than posture and little forks. After Mrs. Wintermacher expels them for insubordination, the girls expect to be sent away for good . . . until they receive a mysterious invitation to a new school. Suddenly, the girls find themselves under the tutelage of the infamous Millicent Quibb—a mad scientist with worms in her hair and oysters in her bathtub. At 231 Mysterium Way, the pizza is fatal, the bus is powered by gerbils, and the dean of students is a hermit crab. Dangerous? Yes! More fun than they’ve ever had? Absolutely! But when the sisters are asked to save their town from an evil cabal of nefarious mad scientists, they must learn to embrace what has always made them stand out and determine what side they’re on—before it’s too late!"

Mad scientists, outcast sisters, and a town to save? What more could you ask for?! Unfortunately, we will all have to wait before we can read this thrilling middle-grade novel. The book doesn't come out until Tuesday, Oct 1, 2024. But it is available to preorder on both Amazon and Target! Considering how popular the Emmy-award-winning actor is, you're going to want to get a copy soon. They are bound to sell out.
