Not Dead Yet: An Obituary To ABC's Canceled Sitcom
While Not Dead Yet may have tried to remind itself and audiences what the show was truly about a season two finale that finally remembered the importance of the ghost element of the series, as it turns out, it was too little too late as ABC has chosen to cancel the sitcom.
Not Dead Yet followed obituary writer, Nell, who must figure out how to pick her life back up following her return home, and how helping ghosts, and the living impacted by their deaths, move on.
The sitcom's big potential cliffhanger, which now stands as the the series finale's unanswered question, found that Nell's big secret of being able to see ghosts may have been revealed to Duncan Rhodes.
Still, Duncan Rhodes was not a strong enough character to lean a cliffhanger on, as he had almost nothing to do with Nell directly for most of the season, and his primary reason for being in the show was to cause strife with Lexi. While finally having someone discover Nell's secret would have been a fun addition to future storylines, it is completely understandable how remaining fans could have lost interest if the entirety of the revelation plot fell on Duncan's shoulders rather than a character that Nell already has an emotional connection to.
Seeing as the already aired season two finale now acts as a series finale, there is no way to know how the show would have eventually wrapped up, or how these characters would have been given the chance to grow if given the chance.
Season two never leaned as hard as it should have on the fun and emotionally in-depth relationship between Nell and Edward, which got shoved aside in season two to make way for the significantly less exciting dynamics between Nell and TJ, and Edward and Lexi.
Although Not Dead Yet may have had potential if it was given the chance for a third season if it righted all of its season two mistakes, in the end, this show was left with its own unfinished business.
