4 Disney Princesses we'd love to see get sequels like Moana

Moana 2 is coming, but which other Disney princesses deserve another film?

Demigod Maui (voice of Dwayne Johnson) is reluctant to help adventurous teenager Moana (voice of Auli‘i Cravalho), who is determined to become a master wayfinder and save her people. But Moana is destined to win him over with her charm, strength and unbridled spunk. Directed by Ron Clements and John Musker, produced by Osnat Shurer, and featuring music by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Mark Mancina and Opetaia Foa‘i, “Moana” sails into U.S. theaters on Nov. 23, 2016. ©2016 Disney. There are certain Disney princesses fans connect to and one of those is Moana. When the film was released in 2016, it felt like a resurgence for Disney.

Not only did the company have a new princess on its hands but fans were excited to see the Rock portraying Maui and even came to love the songs. You can't tell me that you don't remember how many people were singing "You're Welcome" after its release.

That's why I wasn't surprised to find out that Disney was planning for a sequel and a TV series. The good news is that Moana 2 will be released on November 27th, 2024 and it's unclear when the TV show will make its appearance.

In honor of that, I wanted to show some love to some Disney princesses we'd love to see have a sequel or even, a TV series focusing more on their characters.

These 4 Disney Princesses have plenty more story to share.

1. Merida (Brave)

When it comes to characters I'd love to know more about, Merida from Brave tops the list. Maybe it's because I went to Disney right after the movie came out. Either way, there is something about her character I've always wanted to learn more about and it seems like there's plenty of story to dive into.

While I'd like to see Merida be the main focus of the show, she has plenty of siblings as evidenced by the clip above and they could make an appearance. In addition, I'd love to see her team up with one of her siblings in an episode and they work to solve a problem.

As far as Disney sequels go, I'm not sure why Brave wasn't even considered. Maybe Disney didn't have a story in mind or something but I want to know more about Merida and I think there's plenty of material to go off of.

RAYA AND THE LAST DRAGON
FANTASTIC QUEST – In Walt Disney Animation Studios’ fantasy action-adventure film “Raya and the Last Dragon,” a lone warrior named Raya teams up with a crew of misfits in a quest to find Sisu, the Last Dragon, and save their kingdom. Cassie Steele lends her voice to Raya, and Awkwafina voices Sisu. From directors Paul Briggs (Head of Story, “Frozen,” “Big Hero 6”) and Dean Wellins (story “Frozen,” Big Hero 6”), producer Osnat Shurer (“Moana”) and writer Adele Lim (“Crazy Rich Asians”), “Raya and /

2. Raya (Raya and the Last Dragon)

As you can see, most of my picks are from modern Disney movies because, for the most part, Disney already has sequels to its classics. If you look back, you'll see that most of the big films from the Disney Renaissance all have sequels.

With that being said, I feel like Raya is in the same boat as Moana. Well not in the same boat but you know what I mean. She's a character that still has a lot of story left to tell and I think her adventures would keep kids entertained. She's someone who isn't afraid of hard work or being a little underhanded to get her way.

Coupled with the addition of dragons, I mean what's not to like? Plus we all know how hot dragons are at the moment (Fourth Wing, anyone?) All in all, I do think Disney has a lot of wiggle room with Raya and her character so I think a sequel or TV series would be a great idea.

3. Aurora (Sleeping Beauty)

As previously mentioned, most popular Disney films end up with a sequel but that's not the case for Sleeping Beauty. While Disney did eventually make 2 films about Maleficent, we never got a true sequel or a continuation of 1959's Sleeping Beauty.

Maybe it's just me, but I'd like to learn more about Aurora and her character. While she's a princess, I know there's more they can do with her character. Whether it's her ruling the kingdom with Phillip by her side, her being a mom, or just her spending the day, baking, I think a series talking more about her would be amazing.

Plus it would also be a great way to introduce her to the younger generation. The film is such a classic and still holds up today. If Disney decided to create a series focused on her, I think fans would really enjoy it.

4. Esmeralda (The Hunchback of Notre Dame)

Let me just start by saying that Esmeralda is not technically a Disney princess. She was at one time but eventually got booted. Regardless, she's still a Disney Princess in my heart so I'm using her on my list.

Whether you agree with me on that front or not, there is no denying that an Esmeralda series would be amazing. I think Disney could go one of two ways with it. They could focus on her origin story which would likely be depressing but a solid watch. The other option is to focus on her character now as I think she'd be a great teacher or a dance instructor.

Either way, I feel like The Hunchback of Notre Dame never gets the love it deserves and I think the series deserves to be brought back in a fun and respectful way.

What do you think of our list? Would you want to see any of these Disney princesses return? Let us know!
