Good Trouble: Mariana and Evan

The Coterie was constantly filled with complicated dynamics, from the initially awkward love triangle tease between Mariana, Gael, and Callie to the eventual will-they-won't-they romance between Davia and Dennis. But, of all of Good Trouble's romances, Mariana and Evan may have had the most complex.

Due to the nature of Evan being Mariana's boss, that already makes things quite complicated. Mariana and Evan's connection is introduced fairly early in the series, but Mariana initially tries to fight it between already dating her co-worker Raj and knowing the unbalanced power dynamic that she would have with Evan as his employee.

Eventually, Evan and Mariana stop fighting their connection, but giving into it does not relieve any of the drama, instead, it makes it even worse. With the added layer of their romance to the mix, working together becomes a more complex situation, including the gender pay gap between men and women along with Evan's refusal to take down Mariana's app because of the way people had chosen to use it for hate groups.

Mariana and Evan become an on-again-off-again will-they-won't-they couple throughout the series as their connection never disappears even when they break-up. But, things become even more difficult when Evan is shot at the Farm after following Joaquin out of the truck to help Mariana.

Mariana takes on an overwhelming amount of guilt surrounding Evan's injury and amnesia that followed it, and it does not make it easier when Mariana is informed that Evan had requested that she not only make significant medical decisions for him if he can not, but also placed her to lead the company if he was unable to do so.

Placing Mariana in these positions without having consulted her first throws Mariana deep into situations she had never anticipated being in, and even though she works to ensure the legacy of Evan's company, that does not make it easier to keep her head above water with the board anticipating her failure so they can swoop in from underneath Evan.

When Evan does eventually remember his past with Mariana, it encourages them to end the series getting back together.
