The Fosters: Callie and Brandon

For as complicated as things constantly were, The Fosters pushed their limits with the conflicting dynamic between Callie and Brandon.

Although Callie and Brandon were never antagonistic toward each other, their situation was quite conflicting, as the duo found themselves harboring romantic feelings when Stef and Lena took in Callie and Jude as foster kids who they ultimately planned to adopt.

Callie's struggle to choose between having a family and having Brandon as a boyfriend played into Callie's internal conflict for a while and made things between Callie and Brandon very complicated during the show's early seasons. Although they knew they shared a connection, they also both understood that Callie, more than anything, wanted and needed a family.

Eventually, Brandon and Callie are able to get to a more platonic place after Callie's adoption, and having slept together the night before they realized Callie's adoption was still possible. The fact that their family all knew these things were going on certainly did not help the situation for anyone, and that conflict also played a teasing role just before Brandon marries Eliza.

Ultimately, The Fosters and Callie and Brandon made the right choice in stopping Brandon and Callie's romance in favor of Callie's adoption, and even the characters acknowledged that their romantic relationship would have eventually burnt out had they chosen that path. Ironically, Good Trouble had their married family lives intertwined anyway when Brandon's marriage to Eliza is eventually followed by Callie's engagement to Eliza's brother Jamie.
