Daniel Ezra's next big role following All American exit revealed
Although Daniel Ezra may no longer be acting as a series regular on The CW Network's All American as Spencer James, audiences will not have to wait long to see him again. Daniel Ezra is set to join Glenn Powell in a new Running Man film from Paramount and Edgar Wright.
The Running Man is based on a novel of the same name written by Stephen King and already had a movie adaptation come out in 1987. The original film starred Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Published in 1982, The Running Man followed the distant dystopian future of 2025 as the American people fall under a totalitarian world. The book follows the protagonist, Ben Richards, in a reality television game show, where in order to win prize money, he must evade a series of killers attempting to end his life.
A reboot of The Running Man may be a hint toward the revival of the dystopian future genre, which had been dormant in films for years, having been led primarily by television shows, such as The 100, Snowpiercer, The Handmaid's Tale, and Silo since the era of The Hunger Games, Divergent, and The Maze Runner came to an end.
Netflix's Uglies, while not a massively successful hit, could have been the beginning of signaling the return of the genre, and if The Running Man does well, it may begin the journey of bringing these stories back to the forefront in movie theaters.
For fans who love Daniel Ezra and can not wait until The Running Man releases to see his latest work, Daniel Ezra plays a supporting role in A Discovery of Witches, available to stream on Netflix. Meanwhile, for fans interested in catching up on Glenn Powell's previous work, he can be found in Netflix's Set it Up, 2024's Twisters, Anyone But You, and Top Gun: Maverick.
The Running Man is set to release in theaters on November 21, 2025.
