PlayStation Plus Essential members haven’t had any super awesome monthly offerings in a while, although they’ve still had a gem or two in the mix.

This December’s games aren’t as mind-blowing as the Mass Effect trilogy from last December, but there are still some good options for the month.

Here are the free games for December:

  • Lego 2K Drive
  • Powerwash Simulator
  • Sable

You know it’s not an offering of free games if there isn’t a racer, and LEGO 2K Drive fits that bill. Don’t shy away just because it’s LEGO either. This game combines open-world racing with insane customization. You build your own car piece by piece and drive around the vast world of Bricklandia. There’s the Cup Series and various Race modes, and you can play online with up to five friends as well.

There is something intensely satisfying in playing Powerwash Simulator. It is exactly what it sounds like, too, and it’s such a cathartic game to play. You start out with a basic power washer and some basic things to clean (a car, a bike) and it quickly escalates from there, from a playground to a skate park to a firehouse.

And that’s not even taking into account any of the collaborations they’ve done with the likes of SpongeBob Squarepants and most recently Back to the Future. Seriously, if you’ve had a day, a week, or a month, and just need to zone out playing a game, Powerwash Simulator is absolutely it.

Sable is a bit of a hidden gem that some say drags on for a bit too long. However, this is a gorgeously rendered open-world adventure that’s set in a desert. You get to explore the dunes on your hoverbike and climb and scale colossal ruins as you unearth plenty of mysteries.

Not only are the graphics gorgeous, but the soundtrack is beautifully cerebral ambient music by Japanese Breakfast.
