What’s new this November 2023 for PlayStation Plus members?
PlayStation Plus Essential tier members are in for a middling offering of games for the month of November. But maybe that’s a choice on Sony’s part with so many other awesome games having been released recently (I’m looking at you, Alan Wake II, Spider-Man 2, and my third play-through of Baldur’s Gate 3).
If you’re still in the market for PlayStation’s free games, here they are for the month of November:
- Mafia II: Definitive Edition
- Dragon Ball: The Breakers
- Aliens Fireteam Elite
First up for Essential Tier members is Mafia II: Definitive Edition, which is the remastered, HD version of the 2010 game and all of its DLC content. Set in the fictional post-World War II city of Empire Bay (a stand-in for NYC), you play as Vito Scarletta, who becomes entangled with the mob while attempting to clear his father’s debts. It’s nothing groundbreaking, but it will manage to suck you in as you try to climb up the mob’s ranks.
Next is Dragon Ball: The Breakers, an asymmetrical survival action game that released in 2022. You play as a team of seven players and go up against some of the classic Dragon Ball Z villains like Freiza and Cell. Referred to as Raiders in this game, the villains have to hunt down the enemy team to evolve into more powerful versions while your team has to escape or overcome them.
It’s a very underwhelming game, as it starts out with a great idea but never really goes anywhere with it. And the wonky camera controls may make you throw your controller through a window.
Last up is Aliens Fireteam Elite where you get to play as a Colonial Marine and team up with two comrades (or computers) to face a xenomorph threat (do you expect anything less from an Alien game?)
It’s a third-person shooter that has a fun leveling system and plenty of weapon options to keep you trying out new avenues as you play. There are a couple of different gaming modes and some fun enemy types to take on. However, the pacing is a little bit all over the place and some of the levels are repetitive.
