Jennifer Garner is returning to her 13 Going on 30 days in Netflix’s new family Christmas adventure, Family Switch. Similar to Freak Friday, a dysfunctional family finds themselves struggling to relate to each other in a home of two parents, two teenagers, a toddler, and a dog.

The movie trailer indicates family conflicts between the teenagers CC (Emma Myers) and Wyatt (Brady Noon) and their parents Jess (Jennifer Garner) and Bill (Ed Helms).

Jennifer Garner certainly has experience playing a teenager, having played the fan-favorite Jenna Rink in 13 Going On 30, which showed her charismatic personality in embodying the youth, excitement, and genuine heartbreak and development of a thirteen-year-old girl trying to understand adulthood. The Netflix film even throws in an easter egg to 13 Going on 30.

Family drama is a common theme and a relatable one, especially around the holidays. The trailer hints at the Walker family’s journey, which calls for them to better understand each other in order to switch back to their normal selves.

Body-switching movies have a habit of not only having those trading places to better learn about the person whom they are inhabiting but also to have a newfound appreciation and understanding of their lives. It also allows the characters who have switched places to discover more about themselves.

But what will it take to get the Walkers back into their regular bodies? How do they fix what makes them disconnected or the elements in their relationships that feel broken?

The trailer suggests fun, chaos, laughs, and emotional moments between the parents and kids as they strive to work together to return to their normal selves.

Will the new Netflix film hold its own to craft its own unique identity? Or, will the element of everyone switching bodies with each other not be enough to distinguish it from the likes of Freaky Friday?

Family Switch will premiere on Netflix on November 30, 2023, allowing it to be perfectly timed to begin the countdown to Christmas.
