2. “Karma”

On the whole, Midnights is all about Taylor’s deepest thoughts, and somehow, “Karma” fits within that perimeter while also still being a fun and poppy song. That’s why it ended up coming in second place on my list. Of course, we won’t be talking about the remix with Ice Spice as it’s good but still a baffling collaboration to think about.

Either way, “Karma” feels like such a fun and carefree song within a rather serious album and it’s all about people getting what they deserve. Considering all the bad press and media attention Taylor has gotten, she deserved to write a song like this and have fun with it. It’s just one of those songs that have you singing and dancing which doesn’t always happen when listening to the rest of Midnights.

1. “Anti-Hero”

That leaves only the last song within this whole project which is the “Anti-Hero.” If there is one song that defined Midnights, it’s this one. “Anti-Hero” feels like the perfect shift for Swift who has become something of a cultural icon for being a “good girl” or only writing or talking about certain subjects. “Anti-Hero” feels like a way to humanize her in the only way she knows how.

Plus it has one of her most iconic lines ever which is: “It’s me! Hi! I’m the problem! It’s me!” I feel like that’s incredibly relatable and she isn’t afraid to call herself out. Yeah, she’s not the best or perfect person but who is? If I had to pick one single to listen to from this album over and over again, it would be this one.

It also has an amazing music video and became a staple at the Eras Tour so how could it not be #1 on my list? Of all the Taylor Swift eras I’ve focused on, this one has felt like the shortest which is bittersweet since it’s such a departure from what she’s done before. Regardless, finishing this project off with Midnights feels right.

Let’s hope Taylor takes a break and allows herself to rest before releasing her next album that isn’t a re-recording of her old material.
