Starting a book by a new author can be daunting yet Brutal Prince by Sophie Lark feels like returning to an old friend.

While that might seem like an odd feeling, Sophie Lark is one of those authors who will make you feel like you’ve been reading her for ages. That’s why I was so excited to see that Bloom Books picked up her Brutal Birthright series.

Sophie Lark has become something of an indie darling and a mafia romance queen so when I was sent a copy of Brutal Prince, I knew I had to feature it on Culturess. Even though it was a re-read, I still wanted to talk about it so why not start with a 5 reasons to read?

Firstly, I’d like to thank Bloom Books for sending me a beautiful finished copy and now, let’s get into why Brutal Prince is a great place to start with Sophie Lark and her books.

Let’s break down the 5 reasons why Brutal Prince is worth the read.

Sophie Lark is an incredibly popular author but if by chance you haven’t read her, you’ve stumbled upon the right post. While I could go into more than 5 reasons why I love this book and why you should read it, let’s just go with 5 as that should hopefully get you enticed enough to pick it up.

1. Brutal Prince is a great book for those looking for mafia romance stories.

Maifa romance books aren’t for everyone and rightfully so. However, Brutal Prince was the first mafia romance story I read and I couldn’t put it down. Even though the book is long, I feel like it’s a great intro to mafia romances for beginners. It doesn’t get too in-depth but gives you enough of a taste to see if you like these types of stories or not.

2. Brutal Prince is also the start of a fun series by Sophie Lark.

Aside from being a great mafia starter, it’s also a great romance book series to begin. Sophie Lark does such a great job of making each book so distinct while also showing love to the families and each romance. As for Brutal Prince, you get a look at both the Gallos and Griffins and can guess which romances will be next. In total, the series is 6 books, and what better place to start than the beginning?

3. The tropes in Brutal Prince are absolutely unmatched.

Of course, I don’t want to give away too much about the plot of Brutal Prince as I feel like it’s best to go in not knowing much. However, this book does feature true enemies-to-lovers like trying to kill each other enemies. There’s also an age gap and even forced marriage/marriage-of-convenience but I won’t say much more as I feel like this one unfolds so beautifully.

4. Sophie Lark’s writing will have you flying through this book.

As I mentioned, Brutal Prince is rather long for a romance book yet once you start reading, you won’t want to put it down. This book is so beautifully paced and features such an intense romance yet an exciting storyline in the background. I don’t know how Sophie Lark does it but her writing is unmatched when it comes to this type of story.

5. In the end, Brutal Prince is a lot of fun.

Regardless if you read to escape or just want to have fun, Brutal Prince will do both or anything you’re looking for at the moment. I remember when I read this first book and was instantly captivated and charmed by it. I ended up reading almost the entire series that same week aside from the final book. Whether you’re looking for fun or just want something to make your day a bit brighter, Brutal Prince fits the bill.

Brutal Prince by Sophie Lark is out now wherever your favorite books are sold.
