PlayStation Plus Essential tier members seem to always have the new games being offered leaked a little early. That’s not a bad thing, especially when the offerings are pretty solid!

Below are your free games for the month of July for the Essential tier:

  • Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War
  • Alan Wake Remastered
  • Endling – Extinction is Forever

First up is Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, which was released in 2020. It’s your standard Call of Duty game under the Black Ops sub-game. The campaign sets you in the 1980s and includes online multiplayer and Zombie mode. One thing the campaign gets right is the quieter moments, where it actually feels like an accomplishment to decipher evidence rather than just a time filler. Multiplayer is what you’d expect from a CoD game, and the Zombies mode is on par

This is the cross-gen bundle, so the PS5 and PS4 versions are included in it, which is nice.

Alan Wake Remastered should come as no surprise, as Alan Wake 2 is slated to release on October 17. Alan Wake is the closest you can get to playing a video game version of a Stephen King novel.

It is the perfect suspenseful action-adventure game that will absolutely give you the creeps. You play author Alan Wake, who is on a desperate search to find his missing wife in the creepy city of Bright Falls. You stumble upon pages of a story he has no recollection of writing, and then you’re faced with confronting your own sanity as the story unfolds before your eyes.

It’s not straight-up horror (though the sequel sure looks like it will be), but it’s enough to make you play with the lights on.

Last up is Endling – Extinction is Forever, where you play as the last fox on Earth in a side-scrolling 3D adventure. All you have to do is avoid extinction in a harsh environment while raising your baby foxes. Sounds easy, right? The graphics are breathtakingly gorgeous and it only takes about five hours to beat.
