Some authors can’t top themselves when it comes to the second book in a series yet Kennedy Ryan did just that. With The Rebel King, she managed to make this series an all-time favorite of mine.

As I said in my previous post about The Kingmaker, there is something undeniably epic about the All The King’s Men duet. We watch as Lennix and Maxim deal with things most couples can only dream of.

Since it’s Kennedy Ryan though, she managed to up the stakes for these two as the first book ended on a massive cliffhanger. If you’ve read the book, you know why I chose those words yet it made going into book 2 all the more exciting.

For some reason, I waited until now to pick up The Rebel King, and if I didn’t already love Kennedy Ryan, this book made me fall in love with her and her writing even more.

The Rebel King by Kennedy Ryan is an emotional and epic romance.

If there’s one word to describe this duet, it’d be epic. There is some kind of magic Kennedy Ryan put into The Rebel King that made me love each more than its predecessor. Of course, I won’t be discussing any spoilers.

Regardless, it picks up right after The Kingmaker’s events. We follow Lennix and Maxim as they deal with the consequences of that along with Owen’s goals and eventually, the tragedy that befalls them. As I said, I don’t want to spoil anything but Kennedy Ryan really put her whole foot into this one and made me hate her yet love her at the same time.

With a sequel, it can be tough to find that same cadence and tone as the first book yet Kennedy Ryan made it look effortless. I couldn’t help but fall in love with Lennix and Maxim’s relationship even more. Seeing these two deal with all the trials and tribulations was a masterclass in how strong relationships can be.

As always, Kennedy Ryan brought it with the passion and love between Lennix and Maxim. I also adored seeing all of the people in Lennix’s and Maxim’s lives including Owen, Millie, and Kimba. Personally, I feel like The Rebel King is easily one of the best sequels I’ve ever read and if you’ve been waiting to pick up book 2, don’t wait.

Of course, as with all Kennedy Ryan books, make sure you have the tissues close by. This is another heartbreaking book yet it’s such an optimistic view of what hard work and love can give you.
