First up is Adios. You’re a pig farmer in Kansas which sounds innocent enough, but it turns out you’re sick of your job disposing bodies for the mob. But the mob only has one way out of your job and it’s not like you want to die. And your hitman friend keeps reminding you of what telling the mob no means.

Adios is a surprisingly heavy game, dealing with depression, loneliness, and suicide and the voice acting compliments it. It’s almost more of a visual novel than an actual video game, but it’s worth the playthrough, especially since it only takes about an hour and a half to finish the game.

Next up is The Vale: Shadow of the Crown. This is a game that focuses solely on haptic controller feedback and visual cues to get its story across. You play as Alex, a princess who was born blind and banished to the borderlands of the kingdom. She survives an attack and braves the harsh wilds of The Vale to reunite with her brother, the ruling monarch.

It’s an interesting, immersive, and fun experience to play and comes in at about four to six hours, so nothing too lengthy. Combat is interesting, as you have to focus on things like your enemy’s breathing or the crunching of whatever’s under their feet. And the voice acting for this game, much like Adios, makes its interesting format almost perfect.

The June games are very different from your standard video games and it’s a breath of fresh air for Games with Gold.
