A new season always brings a plethora of new books and one I was extremely excited about was Right Girl, Wrong Side by Ginny Baird.

Despite having never read from this author before, I knew I wanted to pick it up for two reasons. First, the cover is absolutely stunning. I mean, it just screams spring and summer to me so I knew I wanted to read it. Then there was the pitch given to me by the publisher and I was sold.

Thankfully, Sourcebooks Casablanca graciously sent me an ARC so I was able to read this one early and I have to say, it was a lot of fun.

However, if you’re wondering about this book or the gorgeous cover caught your eye, these are 4 reasons why Right Girl, Wrong Side is the perfect spring read.

1. Right Girl, Wrong Side gives major Romeo & Juliet vibes.

We start off the story, by getting to know the Machado family through the lens of Evita, the only girl in a group of three siblings. Their mother won a trip to a beach house in Nantucket and it’s set to be a great vacation until we find out Mrs. Machado’s sworn enemy also won the trip and no one told the other.

For Evita, this is a chance to reconnect with Ryan Hatfield who is a friend and crush from the past. With their families feuding and lots of tension between everyone, it really does feel like the two are star-crossed lovers aside from the death at the end.

2. This book is perfect for spring break or summer reading.

As I mentioned earlier, this cover gives me all the vacation vibes. However, once you actually start reading the book, it’ll make you want to take a vacation. Even though the Machados and Hatfields are fighting for most of the book, they’re still able to relax.

This book is set in Nantucket and at times, it really did feel like I was there. They were having fun on the beach, riding bikes together, and playing games. It’s exactly the type of family vacation you read about and know you’d love to just lounge on the beach and have some fun.

3. Right Girl, Wrong Side is the definition of a romantic comedy.

For me, the reason why I adored this book so much was because of how funny it was. While the romance was good, the hijinks between the two families were great. No matter what happened, Mrs. Machado and Mrs. Hatfield were at each other’s throats. Whether it was something in the kitchen, a beach umbrella, or even, playing music, these two couldn’t stop getting on each other’s nerves.

For Ryan and Evita, it’s more about those two playing referees and it’s just hilarious. Honestly, it’s mostly the parents acting like children which is just absurd. It’s just a lot of fun to see how Ryan and Evita handle it as it’s honestly so petty and stupid but it’s part of the reason why their connection works so well.

4. This is a closed-door romance.

While I know we all talk about steamy romances, some people don’t enjoy that and would rather have a closed-door romance. If you’re looking for something that’s tame aside from a few kisses, Right Girl, Wrong Side is a good one. This one is more about their relationship developing and dealing with the family hijinks during their vacation. Regardless, it’s still a lot of fun and one I’d recommend for this spring or summer.
