Xbox Games with Gold surprisingly is offering its subscribers three free games for March 2023! Microsoft changed the subscription service last fall to just two games, down from the four it used to be, citing issues with backward compatibility and quality.

But to our surprise, there are three games this month! And they all take place in the past!

Below are your free games for March and the dates they’re available to download:

  • Trüberbrook, March 1 to 31
  • Sudden Strike 4 – Complete Collection, March 1 to 31
  • Lamentum, March 16 to April 15

March highlights for Xbox Games with Gold members

Trüberbrook is a point-and-click sci-fi adventure set in a German village in the 1960s. It’s a parallel universe with reality rifts and crazy scientists and other oddities. But what sets Trüberbrook apart is the handmade miniatures that make up the background. It looks so very different from everything else that it’s worth checking out while it’s free.

Sudden Strike 4 – Complete Collection is an RTS series set in WWII, and this gives you access to 4 and all the prior DLCs. So if you need to spend a lot of time losing yourself in gaming this month, that’s a solid choice. Sudden Strike 4 gives you 11 campaigns throughout World War II, which is North Africa, Europe, and the Pacific. You have more than 100 units to command and your choice between single-player or multiplayer.

Last up is Lamentum, a pixel-art survivor horror game that was released in 2021. Set in a haunted mansion (but not the Haunted Mansion), you explore the darkest depths of the human psyche and play as Victor Hartwell, who has to decide how far he will go to save his sick wife. It’s set in the mid-1800s in New England and it’s not exactly for the faint of heart.

Honestly, this is a better offering than we’ve seen in months. With three games to choose from and all of them different genres (and none of them racing games or farm sims!), subscribers should actually get some use out of the games in March.
