Martin Luther King Jr. Day is January 16 in 2023 and with it comes federal business closures and even other businesses closing for the holiday. But what about the United States Postal Service (USPS)? Will they be doing mail delivery on MLK Day?

Considering USPS is a federal organization, it probably comes as no surprise that for the most part, they are in fact closed on January 16. But what does that actually mean for mail delivery?

Do we get mail on MLK Day?

Will we get mail delivered on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day?

According to AARP,

"Post offices will be closed on Monday, Jan. 16, and the Postal Service will not deliver regular mail or packages on that date."

In general, there will not be delivery service by the Postal Service on MLK Day. However, you may still see letter carriers and postal trucks out and about on January 16. That is because there are still deliveries being made.

Generally, the only deliveries that would be made on holidays like MLK Day (as well as on Sundays) by the USPS would be any Amazon packages that they are the final delivery service for or the USPS Priority Mail Express items.

If you are not looking for your actual mail delivery, but just wanted to know whether or not your local post office would be open to shipping things out or getting stamps/postage, then you will need to pick a different day to head on over. Brick and Mortar locations will be closed, although you can still go on their website for help with many common purchases and issues. There are also some locations that offer 24/7 service with the help of their full-service machines that let you pay for and print postage for smaller packages and buy stamps.

It’s always good to know what’s open or closed on a holiday, especially if that happens to be an essential service like the post office offers.
