M&M’s candy debuts packaging featuring all-female M&M’s
The women rule, even in sweet chocolate candy form! The popular M&M’s candy has debuted its new packaging, featuring all three female M&M’s spokes candies, Brown, Green, and the latest addition, Purple. The wrapper’s purpose is to launch the #FlippingtheStatusQuo campaign and to change stereotyped gender roles.
In a press release, the Mars Company further elaborated on the packaging design:
"This month, M&M’S®, proudly part of Mars, will release its first-ever packs spotlighting dynamic female M&M’S characters. The all-female packs celebrate women everywhere who are flipping the status quo. The limited-edition product will feature Purple, Brown, and Green on inspirational packaging, plus be the first united representation of the female trio spokes candies. This debut M&M’S packs come as the next chapter for Mars’ newest M&M’S character, Purple, featuring her not only on the packaging but in packaging as well, alongside green and brown candies."
The unique packaging is available in grocery stores ahead of International Women’s Day in March. $1 of every package sold will be donated to women’s nonprofits, She Is The Music, and We Are Moving The Needle, which focuses on women employed by creative industries. Additionally, Mars will make donations outside the campaign to two more women-empowered nonprofits, the Geena Davis Institute on Gender In Media and the Female Founder Collective.
The spokes candies will be on the classic, peanut, and peanut butter bags in all sizes in a flipped position.
According to Mars, Purple was introduced in September 2022 to represent inclusivity and acceptance and reflect confidence, authenticity, and self-awareness. Last year, the entire spokes candies line was altered to reflect a “more progressive and dynamic world,” per the press release at the time.
