There are some Christmas movies everyone debates about. One I rarely see in conversation is Ghosts of Girlfriends Past.

Obviously, the major film everyone talks about is The Nightmare Before Christmas. Some say it’s a Christmas movie while others say it’s a Halloween movie. Overall, there isn’t a good consensus of which it is because the movie is a little bit of both and people can’t seem to agree.

Regardless, the same can be said about Ghosts of Girlfriends Past. While it might not seem like the typical Christmas movie, it is actually based on A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens which is pretty obvious based on the title.

Even so, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past was actually released back in May 2009 so it does bring up the question of if it’s a Christmas movie or not.

Is Ghosts of Girlfriends Past considered a Christmas film?

Honestly, there is a lot to consider when trying to make this decision. Before going any further though, I’d like to say that this post is all in good fun. If you consider Ghosts of Girlfriends Past a Christmas film, then more power to you, and the same if you don’t feel like it is. Either way, it’s all about having fun.

While the film is based on A Christmas Carol, the film doesn’t actually take place during Christmas. Even so, the film does give those cozy and fun vibes most of us enjoy around the holiday season. Additionally, the cast for Ghosts of Girlfriends Past is absolutely delightful including Matthew McConaughey, Jennifer Garner, and Lacey Chabert who is a Christmas movie vet at this point.

What makes this film so enjoyable is seeing all of Connor’s past girlfriends and seeing how they come to visit him to teach him a lesson. All in all, the film is a lot of fun and will definitely have you chuckling at some point. Regardless of how you feel about its Christmas status, the story is undeniably entertaining.

Personally, I don’t feel like Ghosts of Girlfriends Past is a Christmas film. For me, it just doesn’t fit the traditional Christmas movie mold. Most Christmas movies are seen as such including Elf, Home Alone, and Christmas Vacation. Even so, this is a good way to watch if you’re looking for cozy vibes and aren’t exactly in the Christmas mood yet.

I mean look at all the debate on if Die Hard is a Christmas movie. There could surely be a debate on if Ghosts of Girlfriends Past is a Christmas movie or not. Either way, I’d love to know which side you land on for Ghosts of Girlfriends Past.
