To finish up September, it would only be right to feature at least one romance by a Hispanic/Latina author. That’s why A Proposal They Can’t Refuse by Natalie Caña had to be the book to finish off September.

If you didn’t know, National Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated from September 15th until October 15th. It’s essentially a time to celebrate not only what’s going on now but also the history and culture of Hispanic people.

While some may celebrate in different ways, I feel like the perfect way to celebrate is by reading books by Hispanic or Latina authors. Frankly, it’s such a small portion of the romance publishing world which is sad but thankfully, it seems like more authors are getting noticed.

A lot of authors are finally getting the recognition they deserve, but that’s why it’s so important to feature Hispanic/Latina authors on #TBRTrending.

A Proposal They Can’t Refuse is the perfect cozy read for fall.

Coming up with just one book for this week’s #TBRTrending was difficult, but one of my recent favorites is A Proposal They Can’t Refuse by Natalie Caña. While it does have more than 1,000 ratings on Goodreads, I still don’t feel like I hear enough readers talking about it so here I am, talking about it.

A Proposal They Can’t Refuse is a romance between Kamilah who is Puerto Rican and a chef and Liam who is Irish-American. The two started off as friends when they were younger before a falling out. Of course, they can’t seem to get away from each other as the restaurant Kamilah works at is next to Liam’s family’s whiskey distillery.

The two are content to ignore each other until their grandfathers proposition them and that’s where the proposal comes in. While I won’t give away much more about the plot, I really did adore these two and watch how they slowly softened to one another. While the romance was absolutely delightful, it wasn’t the only draw for this book.

With Kamilah being a chef, all of the talks about food and the descriptions of it made my mouth water for sure. Then you add in the family dynamics of the two and it ends up being a huge mess, but you end up growing to love the two of them and appreciating all of the work they’ve put into making both their families and each other proud.

While the story is relatively low-angst, the book does touch on a lot of heavier topics including depression, cancer, loss of a parent, loss of a grandparent, and toxic familial relationships. The writing style is super easy to get into and you’ll end up falling into the story as I only read this one in two sittings.

dark. Next. Fake It Till You Bake It is a sweet treat for romance lovers
