#TBRTrending: I Wanna Give You Your Flowers by M.L. Sexton
With the first day of Fall vastly approaching, we need to pack in as much summer reading as we can. That’s why I Wanna Give You Your Flowers by M.L. Sexton was an easy pick for #TBRTrending.
As previously mentioned, we’re almost at the end of summer. While a lot of us consider Labor Day the end of summer, the fall season doesn’t officially start until September 22nd. Even so, it’s nice to wrap up those summer reads and move into your next phase of reading.
For me, summer is all about reading light and fluffy books, especially romance books. With the myriad of cartoon covers out there, it can be hard to tell if a romance book is a rom-com, a regular romance, or something completely different.
No matter what the case is though, a lot of us are on the hunt for new authors and that’s why featuring M.L. Sexton and one of her books was an easy choice for me.
I Wanna Give You Your Flowers by M.L. Sexton is perfect to end your summer.
Let me start off by letting you know that this is a novella so if you’re looking for something longer, then it’s best to wait for another round of #TBRTrending. However, if you’re looking for something short and sweet, then M.L. Sexton has you covered with this one.
As the first book in her Hot Stepmom Summer series, I Wanna Give You Your Flowers follows a romance between a single mother, Lakyta, and her personal trainer, Anndee. The two meet once and the attraction is almost immediate, but then they end up meeting again because of Lakyta’s son. Eventually, they do end up giving in to their attraction and it goes from there.
If you couldn’t tell, this is a sapphic story featuring two Black characters and it’s the perfect way to start off the series. You end up really growing to love these characters and root for their relationship even though the novella is less than 100 pages. Personally, I really loved seeing how Andee connected with Lakyta’s son and how they were able to foster something amidst his mother dating her.
As previously mentioned, this is the first book in her Hot Stepmom Summer series and there are four books that follow. Each of them is Black love and sapphic but all short and steamy. The entire series is also available to read on Kindle Unlimited if you’re a subscriber. Overall, this series is a lot of fun and is perfect to marathon over the weekend. Plus each of the books has less than 50 ratings on Goodreads so it’s a nice way to try out a new author and even leave a review.
