Roswell New Mexico has hit the final episode of its four-season run and with it comes one last battle and plenty of relationship moments. Honestly, we were not ready to see this series come to an end and we really wish The CW (or really any other platform) would give this show one final chance to finish this story.

In the series finale, which Roswell titled “How’s It Going To Be?,” it was time for our aliens to put a stop to Clyde and his mission to return to Oasis and be the new leader of this planet. Since he is a true believer in Jones and his plan to overthrow alien-kind, that is definitely not something our heroes want to see happen.

After a season that in many ways felt like a slow build-up, the resolution of this storyline came fast and quickly. In fact, Clyde was stopped within the first 30 minutes or so of this final episode.

This left plenty of time for some other things to get wrapped up. And in this case, that meant dealing with some relationships and what’s next.

Roswell New Mexico comes to an end with “How’s It Going To Be?”

Here’s the thing about Roswell New Mexico, from the very beginning it has been about family and relationships. While the alien storylines may have been the thing that made it special and stands out from a crowd, at its heart, it has been about love, friendship, and family.

And in the final episode that was truly what we got. Perhaps the only characters who truly got the ending that they deserved (and earned) were Michael and Alex. Why? Because Malex was the endgame. And what better way to celebrate the endgame of Malex than with a wedding?

There was something so beautiful about Michael and Alex finally getting their happy ending. And Michael telling Alex that he was marrying his high school sweetheart was everything.

But the problem is that while we got the Malex ending of our dreams, for other couples, the endings were not as perfect. We can’t be mad at the fact that Kyle and Isobel’s final moment was more of a cozy cuddle. These two got a pleasant relationship journey that ended on a more subtle note.

Perhaps if we had gotten the fifth season we wanted, there could have been more to their story. At this point, we are happy with the fact that we know that they are at least together as this chapter of Roswell comes to an end.

Then we have Dallas and Maria. Theirs was a story that did not get a chance to fully develop, but at the same time, it was somewhat satisfying. We know that these two could be the endgame for each other, but there is a planet out there that needs a Dallas. And they are getting it.

But the ending that we are both heartbroken over and also hopeful about comes from Max and Liz. Why? Because in the end, they are separated by an entire galaxy.

While supposedly these two are each other’s endgame, we won’t get to see it. Sure, Max says yes to Liz’s re-proposal (if you will), but we will never see Oasis, what happens on that planet, or even if Max will ever make it home to make that wedding happen.

Max and Liz have, in many ways, been at the very heart of Roswell New Mexico. (And if you watched the original series too, you know exactly what I mean.)  For this couple to not get a chance to be together, in the end, is not the way we saw this ending.

With that ring on Liz’s finger, we know there is hope for the future, which means that they aren’t done forever (except for the show not getting another season). But the fact that we had to watch Max walk away and step through a portal to an entirely different planet is the kind of ending we didn’t want to see for a couple that has been at the heart of this series from the beginning.

But we want to know what you thought of Roswell’s finale. Are you as upset as we are? Is anyone else hoping and wishing for another season or a spin-off of some kind? Who else is wishing for a Roswell: Oasis spin-off?
