Xbox Games with Gold members have their last month of four games to play in September.

Starting in October, Games with Gold will no longer include any Xbox 360 games, as Microsoft explained that the backwards compatibility is coming to an end. Will they add two additional games on top of the two remaining or will Games with Gold members only have two games to play going forward? We’ll find out next month.

In the meantime, here are your games for September and the dates they’re available to download:

  • Gods Will Fall, September 1 to 30
  • Double Kick Heroes, September 16 to October 15
  • Thrillville, September 1 to 15
  • Portal 2, September 16 to 30

September highlights for Xbox Games with Gold members

Gods Will Fall is the action/adventure game for September as you take up a battle against the gods themselves. You’ll travel to each of the gods’ realms and fight against monsters and other creatures with your band of Celtic warriors. It’s a solid roguelike for September.

Double Kick Heroes is a fun shoot-em-up game all to the beat of the music a la Crypt of the Necrodancer. You’ve got thirty levels of heavy metal in your Cadillac (also known as the Gundillac) and various musical instruments to choose from to take on hoards of zombies. There’s even a level editor where you can make your own music!

Thrillville is your amusement park management sim this month that will sate your thirst if you’re dying to play something similar to Rollercoaster Tycoon. There is a storyline you can follow as you manage the park’s day-to-day activities. You get missions you need to finish in order to move on, and you have five different parks to oversee, and none of this is getting into the minigames you can play either solo or with friends.

But the true highlight of this month’s offerings is Portal 2. One of the best puzzle platformers of all time, if you haven’t played it yet for some reason, please do so this month. Play as the silent protagonist and match wits against GLaDOS as you solve puzzles. Adding in voice talent from the likes of Stephen Merchant and JK Simmons only makes it that much better. Don’t forget about the excellent co-op mode either!
