August highlights for Xbox Games with Gold members

Calico is up first for August, which must mean it’s the time of the season for more cat games! This is your sim game this month, as you’re tasked with rebuilding the town’s closed-down cat café. It’s one of your warm and fuzzy comfort games, as you get to design your character and customize the café however you’d like.

ScourgeBringer is your rogue-lite for August, very much reminding me of Dead Cells in design and looks. Which isn’t a bad thing! Released in 2020, the action is relentless and gritty. You’re faced with waves of bad guys and you literally smash your way through them. The action in this game really feels aggressive in a fluid way. You’ll find yourself mesmerized as you make your way through the maps. The skill tree is slow-going between your deaths, but once you reach a certain point, it definitely starts to show on your runs.

Saint’s Row 2 was released in 2008 and was also offered as a Games with Gold game back in July 2020. If you’re looking for an alternative to a Grand Theft Auto, this one’s up your alley. In this sequel to the first installment, you wake up from a coma to learn that the 3rd Street Saints has disbanded. It’s up to you to rebuild the Saints and take back your old territory. And with Saint’s Row the reboot releasing on August 23rd, it may be fun to revisit an older installment.

Lastly, we have Monaco: What’s Yours Is Mine, which was an indie darling back in 2013. If you want the thrill of pulling off the perfect heist, look no further. You and up to three other players pick your character out of a lineup (each one has their own specialty) and play through 30-odd puzzle stages that are unique and honestly incredibly addicting. You’ll definitely find yourself wanting to replay this one.
