#TBRTrending: Beauty and the Feast by Satomi U
Cooking is the perfect way to take care of someone and that sentiment is especially true in the manga, Beauty and the Feast.
Thus far in #TBRTrending, there has only been one graphic novel featured. However, as someone who loves graphic novels, comics, and manga, it’s time for that to change. While manga is in its heyday right now, there is still a lot of underrated series.
In particular, it doesn’t seem like romance manga gets nearly as much love. Yes, there are plenty of them out there but the ones that fly under the radar tend to stay there. However, there is a recent favorite of mine that I knew I had to feature.
If you’re looking for a unique story with a lot of cooking and a budding friendship, then Beauty and the Feast is a good fit for you.
Beauty and the Feast is the ideal manga if you’re a foodie or enjoy those stories.
When you look at a title such as Beauty and the Feast, you might assume that this manga is a retelling of Beauty and the Beast. Surprisingly, it’s not but the title does make a lot of sense once you’ve read the story.
This manga series follows Yakumo who is 28 and a widow, living alone and ends up befriending her neighbor, Yamato, and deciding to cook for him. Considering that Yamato is 17 years old and lives alone, he manages to eat a lot of food. Obviously, that’s meant to be a reference to the title of this series.
What makes this series so fun is watching Yakumo really come out of her shell and start to take care of Yamato. She really puts her all into cooking food for the two of them to share and even challenges herself to get better. It’s just so nice to see her slowly becoming a better cook and taking care of Yamato along the way.
While this series does have some tension with the two characters, there is no romance as that would be inappropriate. However, watching their friendship blossom and seeing the two grow close is just delightful. At this point, there are only three volumes of this manga translated into English but there are currently 11 volumes out.
Honestly, Beauty and the Feast is just so wholesome and sweet. Plus it’ll make you want to cook which is something a lot of us could use push for. Either way, this manga series is one you’ll want to come back to and even, might snag a recipe or two from. Even if you aren’t a huge manga reader, this one is worth a shot as a #TBRTrending pick.
