Is there a new High School Musical movie coming?

Reboots, reunions, and spinoffs – oh my! Now more than ever, all of our favorite shows and films are having a new twist attached to them. Could High School Musical be next? The internet certainly thinks so. Here’s why.

Our favorite high school couple goes back to high school

We all fell in love with Gabriella Montez and Troy Bolton right off the bat when they met on a holiday vacation on New Year’s Eve and sang together. Soon after, the two were reunited when Gabriella, played by Vanessa Hudgens, moved to Troy Bolton’s, played by Zac Efron, hometown.

The relationship, friendships, high school drama and more, brought three different musicals and a spinoff series (High School Musical: The Musical: The Series) with a brand new cast on Disney+. While the spinoff did not see as much success as the film’s franchise, it is known for helping rise the popularity of Olivia Rodrigo.

Because so, when the stars of the original franchises revisited the high school where the film was filmed, fans could not help but speculate whether something new is in the works.

Vanessa was first, posting the video on her Instagram about a month ago with the caption: “Do you remember in kindergarten how you’d meet a kid and know nothing about them, then 10 seconds later you’re playing like you’re best friends because you didn’t have to be anything but yourself?”

Now, just like Friday, Zac matched the video with a Instagram photo in front of the iconic high school with the caption, “Don’t you… Forget about me ✊🏼”.

Will there be a new High School Musical film?

Although the two images caused much attention on social media, nothing has been confirmed as of yet. Vanessa also confirmed to Access Hollywood Live in 2017 that two lost touch. However, Zac’s movie dad , Bart Johnson, who played Coach Jack Bolton, was excited to see him in front of East High, posting a comment on the image that reads: “Warms coaches ole heart to see this. Welcome home, son. WHAT TEAM!?”
