Is Kelsea Ballerini’s new single a good playlist pick?

2022 has been an amazing year for Kelsea Ballerini. Things are only getting sweeter for her fans, though.

While she released the first single, “HEARTFIRST” back in April, we haven’t heard a peep since then. Thankfully, the wait is over as she announced that her newest album, Subject to Change is coming out on September 23rd, 2022.

Along with announcing her new album, she also announced a new single, “Love Is A Cowboy” set to release on July 15th, 2022. Kelsea Ballerini has evolved a lot as an artist so it’ll be interesting to see what direction she goes in with “Love Is A Cowboy.”

With the single out now, it’s only right that we talk about it and see if it’s worth adding to your playlist.

Is the new Kelsea Ballerini single a good playlist pick?

As much as I enjoy Kelsea Ballerini, I wouldn’t strictly call this a country song. However, this song does focus on a country theme so if you’re leaning more towards the pop country realm, you’ll enjoy this one. Plus it’s called “Love Is A Cowboy” so it’s clearly meant to appeal to country fans.

However, what I enjoy most about it is how soft and sweet it is. Whether it’s because of Kelsea’s voice or the tone in which she delivers the lyrics, this song sounds beautiful. With lyrics such as “A little El Dorado/ a little John Wayne/Love is a Cowboy” and “Take you dancing in that neon/leave you crying in it too,” the connections are fun without being corny.

While the song has a happy tone to it, it also seems a little bit melancholy. Similar to Kacey Musgrave’s “Space Cowboy,” this song is bittersweet. You might end up finding love or you might end up alone as it can be with cowboys. Regardless, this song is a solid follow-up to her first single, “HEARTFIRST.”

Personally, I really enjoy the song and this new era Kelsea Ballerini is ushering in. Thus far, she’s only released songs focused on love but I can’t wait to see what she does next. With an upcoming album in September, I’m sure this summer will be full of announcements from her.

As far as adding it to your playlist, this is one I’d recommend. While it’s not overly country, it’ll satisfy those pop country lovers out there. As someone who loves both the country genre and the pop genre, it feels like Kelsea Ballerini is at the epicenter and knows what her audience is looking for.
