The Sanderson Sisters are rising from the dead again! After nearly thirty years, the witches from the 1993 classic Hocus Pocus are returning in the upcoming sequel, Hocus Pocus 2. The premiere date is set one month before the start of the Spooky Season, revealed at the Disney Upfronts Presentation on Tuesday.

Winifred, Sarah, and Mary Sanderson will be flying in on their magical brooms on September 30th and air exclusively on Disney+. There is no better way to kick off Spooky Season and Halloween. Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy will reprise their witchy and soul-draining roles and fan favorite, good-natured zombie Billy Butcherson, portrayed by Doug Jones.

Disney Upfront attendees were also given an exclusive first look at some new film footage that showed two young girls illuminating the forbidden Black Flame Candle, summoning the Sisters. With a loud cackle, Winifred screeches, “Lock up your children! Yes, Salem! We are back!”

The preview also shows the Sisters break out in song with a cover of Elton John’s 1974’s dance hit, “The B*tch is Back.” The new Mayor of Salem (Tony Hale) and a yet-be-unveiled character, played by Sam Richardson, made cameos in the footage.

What is Hocus Pocus 2 about?

The overall storyline of the Halloween-themed movie is still pretty much a secret. We know that the three Sisters are resurrected again and wreak havoc in present-day Salem. There is one setting where the witches attend a drag performance where they witness the Queens do singing impersonations of them. Drag Winifred is played by Rupaul’s Drag Race alum, Ginger Minj, while Drag Mary and Drag Sarah are covered by  Kornbread “The Snack” Jeté and Kahmora Hall.

It’s up to three high-school girls (Whitney Peak, Lilia Buckingham, and Belissa Escobedo) who will go on the quest to stop the witches’ thirst for revenge after being “dead” for nearly three decades.
