Hold on to your witches’ hats because it’s the return of the Sanderson Sisters!  Hocus Pocus 2, announced back in December 2020, is the sequel to the immensely popular Disney Halloween classic. Onboard with the film are Bette Midler (Winifred), Kathy Najimy (Mary), and Sarah Jessica Parker (Sarah).

But the soul-sucking witches brought back to life from 1693 Salem with the light of the Black Flame Candle in the 1993 release, are not the only ones that may cause a spell.  Joining them with being a series of new faces-Whitney Peak, Lilia Buckingham, Belissa Escobedo, Tony Hale, Sam Richardson, Hannah Waddingham, Juju Brener, Froy Gutierrez, Taylor Henderson, and Nina Kitchen- along with Doug Jones, who played Winifred’s one-time love, William “Willy” Butcherson, who was in the original movie.  The cast list was revealed in a tweet on Halloween, posted by the Walt Disney Studios.  Before that tweet, another was posted with a teaser trailer of the Black Flame Candle.

Are the original kids-Omri Katz, Thora Birch, and Vanessa Shaw reprising their roles as Max, Dani, and Allison?

There have not been any official announcements or news of whether they’ll be making a comeback, but fans are hopeful for the possibility.  Who wouldn’t want Dani to cuddle up with an immortal black cat again, or maybe see Max and Allison as a married couple helping with fighting off the evils of the Sanderson Sisters?  The three can also give some much-needed advice to the Salem citizens on how to stop the witches from brewing up great trouble.

We’re keeping our hopes up as it would not be a true Hocus Pocus without them.

What will Hocus Pocus 2 be about?

Hocus Pocus 2 will focus on the Sanderson Sisters’ return after three young women brought them back from the dead.  The movie will take place in modern-day Salem, Massachusetts and the witches will no doubt be transfixed again by even more current trends and tech.  Yet, they seem to do pretty well with them in the first installment.

The three women-who lit the Flame- hold grave responsibility to stop the witches from turning the town into a disaster area all on Halloween night.  Talk about amplifying the spooks and twisted events.

Production has begun on the sequel in the neighboring state of Rhode Island, in Providence (not Salem) and director Anne Fletcher reflected her excitement on the magical project.

"“Now more than ever, people need to laugh. We should be laughing every day, and there is so much fun to be had with these three unbelievable women playing delicious characters from such a beloved film,” director Anne Fletcher said in a previous statement. “I am so grateful to be able to play a part in bringing these witches back to life, and to be working with my friends at Disney again makes it all the more special. This is a movie for everyone, from the fans who grew up with the first film to the next generation of viewers, and I can’t wait to get started.”"

When will the sequel be released?

Hocus Pocus 2 is scheduled to exclusively premiere on Disney Plus in the Fall of 2022, twenty-nine years after the first film.
