It’s official, witches: Hocus Pocus is getting a sequel on Disney+. Here’s what we know about the movie so far.

The witches from Hocus Pocus may have waited 300 years for a virgin to light a candle and set them free, but it feels like we’ve been waiting even longer for confirmation of a sequel to the Halloween classic.

And this year’s Disney Investor Day delivered on that front, bringing fans confirmation that reports of a Hocus Pocus 2 were correct — and that the sequel would be coming to Disney+. Unfortunately, the details about the upcoming film are still pretty hush-hush. We do know, however, that Adam Shankman will be directing the movie.

“Coming exclusively to @DisneyPlus is Hocus Pocus 2,” Disney wrote on its official Twitter, “the spooky sequel to the 1993 Halloween classic! @AdamMShankman is set to direct.”

Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy have seen the plans for the Hocus Pocus sequel, and all three of our favorite witches are expected to reprise their roles. If we had to guess, they’ll probably be haunting a new generation of children long after Max, Dani, and Allison have their run-in with them. No plot details have been released just yet, but a modern take on the story would make sense — and it would likely appeal to a new generation of viewers.

As far as what other stars and behind-the-scenes creatives will be involved with the sequel, that’s anyone’s guess. There’s no timeline as to when we might see Hocus Pocus 2 arrive — or even as to when it could start filming — but we’re hoping more details will come out soon. (In the meantime, at least the original is available on Disney+.)
