Legacies has been canceled after four seasons
Legacies has officially been canceled after four seasons on The CW Network. Taking place at the Salvatore Boarding School in Mystic Falls, Hope Mikaelson, Lizzie Saltzman, and Josie Saltzman led the third installment of The Vampire Diaries Universe alongside the Super Squad.
Within its four-year run, Legacies took on several monsters-of-the-week, led by its overall antagonist, Malivore. However, the fourth season took a drastically different turn. While monsters still appeared, Hope took on an antagonistic role after triggering her vampire side and having her humanity shut off soon after. But, she was not the only villain to grace the fourth season. Gods have also played a role as the Super Squad’s adversary throughout the final season.
But, as disappointing as it is to lose Legacies, this cancelation is not just the conclusion to one show. It also concludes The Vampire Diaries Universe.
Throughout the trilogy of shows, audiences have been introduced to numerous supernatural creatures, whether they be vampires, werewolves, witches, Originals, Hybrids, Doppelgängers, Heretics, Sirens, the Hollow, or the world’s first Tribrid.
When The Vampire Diaries first portrayed it in 2009, the supernatural world launched a phenomenon in its own show and the two spinoffs that followed. Thirteen years after The Vampire Diaries made a name for itself, the universe it brought with it is coming to an end.
This universe is filled with history, and attachments to previous characters are constant amongst the last spinoff. Luckily, throughout Legacies, fans have been able to revisit earlier characters, including the Mikaelson family, Kai Parker, Jeremy Gilbert, Aurora de Martel, and even a voice-over appearance from Caroline Forbes.
Hopefully, if the series must come to an end, Legacies has concluded its final season with an ending that brings closure to the Super Squad and The Vampire Diaries Universe as a whole.
