Billie Eilish becomes youngest performer to headline Coachella

Björk, Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Ariana Grande, and now Billie Eilish.

The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival has commenced in California, and Billie Eilish has made history. She was the fifth woman to headline the festival since it was first held in October 1999. The 20-year-old also became its youngest headliner after playing a 90-minute show on Saturday night.

Eilish addressed her history-making moment during her performance by telling the crowd, “I should not be headlining this s***!” She continued, “but I’m so f***ing grateful that I’m here and that you guys are all here. This is such a dream come true. I feel crazy.” She also closed the show by saying, “Thank you, Coachella! I’m sorry I’m not Beyoncé. I love you, goodnight.”

Her appearance was filled with guests. Although many of her concerts include appearances from her brother Finneas, the night also saw appearances from Khalid, Pos, and Damon Albarn. Khalid assisted Eilish in performing their 2018 duet “Lovely”.  Damon Albarn, made a rare appearance, as the lead singer of Blur and Gorillaz.

While Eilish will also return to the Coachella stage on Saturday, April 23, to finish her appearance at the festival, she will make history one more time when she becomes the youngest headliner ever at the Glastonbury Festival. The festival is considered one of the largest in the world and is a five-day music festival held in England.

She adds her accomplishments to her recent Academy Award for Best Song, which she took home for “No Time to Die” from the film No Time to Die.
