Sabrina Spellman needs to be more impactful on Riverdale

Kiernan Shipka is once again reprising her role as Sabrina Spellman on Riverdale. She made an appearance during the sixth season’s Rivervale 5 Episode Event. However, Sabrina’s role was small, having the teenage witch appear only in the final moments of “The Witching Hour(s)” and limiting her interactions to being within the Blossom house.

Riverdale needs to learn from its previous mistake. Sabrina Spellman is a developed, exciting, and intriguing character with a backstory and struggles of her own. However, allowing her to have a significant impact on the plot and a more prominent role in the episode while having Sabrina interact with additional main characters would improve her appearance on the show.

Riverdale has been playing with supernatural elements, such as Archie, Betty, and Jughead, receiving superpowers including invincibility, seeing red auras surrounding threats, and reading minds. Also, the ability for Abigail Blossom to magically possess Cheryl’s body, as well as the exorcism Archie, Betty, Jughead, Nana Rose, and Britta perform to remove Abigail from Cheryl’s body.

Given the supernatural elements, Sabrina could be involved in helping the group understand where these magical abilities have come from or how to strengthen them.

Riverdale’s events have, in some capacity, been mirroring circumstances introduced in Rivervale. Considering Sabrina’s role in Rivervale had been to help Abigail’s spirit to reunite her with Thomasina Topaz in the afterlife, perhaps Sabrina will be coming to Riverdale for similar reasons.

However, given that Percival Pickens seems to be involved in the supernatural as well with the powers of persuasion, maybe Sabrina’s appearance can help Archie find a way to battle Percival or even remove him from town entirely.

There are tons of ways and potential to use the teenage witch to Riverdale’s advantage. First, however, Riverdale has to be open to the prospect of using Kiernan Shipka’s character in a more massive role than her previous appearance.
