The Big Leap may have given its central characters a second chance, but Fox has officially canceled the show after one season.

The show found its initial purpose in following a group of people searching for a second chance or a way to re-energize their lives. Whether it be Gabby and Justin, who joined the show after their lives had not taken the direction they had hoped for after high school ended, or Mike, who had initially hoped to win back his ex-wife before falling in love with Paula.

Everyone had a reason to join the reality dance drama, whether it be for a launching pad for career advancement, hope in doing something new and different, or following an old passion.

Along the way, the dancers were joined by their producer, Nick, who enjoyed the drama between the people more than he ever cared for the actual Swan Lake performance the group was attempting to put on.

The Big Leap jumped between the comedic frustrations of the world behind the camera of a reality show and the real-world situations the performers were going through in their actual lives. But luckily, the significant storylines had primarily been wrapped up by the finale, “We Make Our Light.”

The conclusions at the end of the season allow for a sense of closure to the characters and story. Although there were some cliffhangers at the finale’s end, they were limited compared to the number of storylines that were given a chance to conclude.

While a second season could have expanded upon the characters and the world they live in, The Big Leap succeeded in telling the stories it wanted to portray in its first season. “We Make Our Own Light” worked as a conclusion to the show that can allow its audience to feel like everyone was moving forward somehow in their lives.
