5 things to look forward to from the 2022 SAG Awards
The Screen Actors Guilds Awards are back this Sunday, February 27. For the 28th Annual SAG Awards, the awards show will honor excellence in film and television. For many, it will also forecast who will win an Academy Award. Whatever the case may be, it will air live through TNT and TBS starting at 8 p.m. E.T. Here is what to expect.
5 things to look forward to from the SAG Awards
1. There will be no host.
For the third year in a row, the awards show will have no host. But the awards show will have many notable names presenting the night’s nominees and winners. Jessica Chastain, Sandra Bullock, and Leonardo Decaprio are names of many that are set to make an appearance.
2. People
While there is no definitive end to the COVID-19 crisis, this is the first in-person ceremony for the SAG Awards since 2020. It is also the first ceremony to not be held at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles since 1997.
3. Helen Mirren
Hellen Mirren is set to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award. The actress currently holds 13 SAG Award nominations and five wins. She joins fellow Lifetime Achievement Award winners that include Alan Alda, Morgan Freeman, Carol Burnett, Rita Moreno, Betty White, and Shirley Temple. Mirren will be presented the award by Kate Winslet.
4. History being made?
Last year was the first time that the film categories were all won by actors of color. The winners were Viola Davis, Yuh-Jung Youn, Chadwick Boseman, and Daniel Kaluuya. Here’s to hoping that this year is no different.
5. Leaders of the pack
Even though House of Gucci was one of the biggest snubs of awards season, it is one of the leaders of the night. Succession and Ted Lasso also lead on the television side.
