It’s the beginning of the end for A Discovery of Witches
Warning: The post contains spoilers for A Discovery of Witches season 3, episode 4.
Matthew Clairmont (Matthew Goode) has everything he needs for a scion, and this episode saw him return to London for a meeting with his brother, Baldwin, who, no big surprise here, refused to offer his support. This probably has a lot to do with it changing Baldwin’s standing in the creature community. He’s head of the Congregation now, but if there isn’t a Congregation, well, that leaves him out in the cold.
Gallowglass revealed his feelings to Diana after he’s been looking after her for 400 years. Although, this does make me wonder if he was looking after her, why didn’t he prevent her from being taken by Satu in season one? Wasn’t part of his job to protect her?
Moving on, Diana (Teresa Palmer) had her twins in this episode, and she and Matthew, who finally reunited with her, named them Phillip and Rebecca after both of their parents. After the twins were born, Gallowglass got on his motorcycle and left which had me looking to see if Steven Cree returns for any upcoming episodes. (He does!)
Sadly, this episode doesn’t end on a happy note, no thanks to Peter Knox. Hopefully, his time is limited, and he’ll be eradicated soon. Owen Teale does a standout job as the creepy witch. But he was looking for Diana and, of course, the Book of Life. So he was willing to do whatever it took to get a lead on her whereabouts, which he got with the use of some dark magic.
Seeing Diana and Matthew together again was the highlight of this episode which showed that their love was stronger than ever. And now that the twins have been born, she’ll be ready to face whatever the witches and other vampires have to throw at her.
Satu provided a bit of humor to the episode when she revealed that she thinks she’s the chosen witch, essentially. She thinks she’s meant to be more powerful than Diana. Between her and Peter Knox, delusions run amok!
Episode five of A Discovery of Witches airs Saturday on Sundance Now.
