Adele’s debut album came out 14 years ago and is still just as popular
Adele’s debut studio album, 19, came out 14 years ago this month (January 28, 2021, to be exact), and it is still very relevant. Do we still talk about it today? Do you still remember songs from it? While it might be the album we least talk about, it still matters to her career and in music. This is why.
Where her career started
With the maturity and impact of Adele’s fourth studio album, 30, it seems like 19 is far gone. Her debut album, however, carries many traits of who she is today. It was released two weeks after Adele graduated from the Brit School for Performing Arts and Technology. During her time in school, she was a classmate of Jessie J and Leona Lewis. While the title of her album was based on her age at the time of her release, her debut single, “Hometown Glory”, was written when she was 16 years old.
Why Adele’s debut album is still as relevant today
According to Bloomberg, Adele’s newest album, 30, was the best-selling album of 2021. Because of it, she was also pushed to the top ten list on Spotify and Youtube. But according to Bloomberg’s report, as much as it is the best-selling record of 2021, it is also the worst-selling record since her debut (that being 19).
Does that have to do with the music industry? Does that have to do with Adele? Bloomberg’s report reflected on the collapse of the music industry from the last decade. It stressed that Adele was the only artist to exceed 1 million copies in record sales last year with the release of 30.
Where would we be without Adele’s debut album? We need to celebrate it!
