As it turns out, Legacies has an exciting trick up its sleeve. In “You Will Remember Me,” Rebecca Breeds returned to The Vampire Diaries Universe, reprising her role as Aurora de Martel. Although Aurora’s return may spark problems for the Super Squad, Hope most of all, it may be an excellent thing for Legacies.

The third series in the franchise has remembered its past in previous episodes, however, weaving the history into the present always allows for more intriguing twists and turns. Rebecca Breeds’ appearance in “You Will Remember Me” is no different.

Aurora’s first appearance has already made several references to The Originals, allowing the shows to feel connected. However, by the episode’s end, she has switched bodies with Hope, a plot twist that will likely be important in the future.

Legacies have succeeded in making a separate name for themselves, feeling like their own show even within a continuing universe. Still, over time, it has started showing similarities to its predecessors, telling darker stories and bringing back fan-favorite characters.

However, Aurora’s return is also a solid suggestion of what Legacies could do in the future. Hope, Lizzie, and Josie are the next generation from The Vampire Diaries and The Originals. Is it so out of the realm of possibility for the three girls to inherit the villains their parents had left alive?

Josie got a taste of such a confrontation when she met Kai Parker. Although only two episodes, Kai’s appearance triggered the final steps needed to catapult Josie into her Dark Josie arc.

Malivore’s death means Legacies has the chance to open the door to a new variety of villains, and Aurora de Martel is a solid start to what the next era of Legacies antagonists could be. Not every opponent needs to last for several seasons, and mixing up the villains gives the main characters a chance to react to something new.
