What is next for Landon Kirby? At the moment, Landon is trapped in Limbo with Ted, formerly the Necromancer, and the newly arrived Alaric. Considering Landon sacrificed himself, encouraging Hope to kill him to defeat Malivore, Landon is searching for a way to peace. However, given how rare permanent death is in The Vampire Diaries Universe, it is still to be determined if or when Landon will return to the realm of the living.

Assuming Landon does make it back to the real world, what storyline is waiting for him? Throughout the seasons, Landon’s biggest plotlines have revolved around Hope Mikaelson, Malivore, or Rafael.

Rafael is out of the question, considering he is living in the Prison World as a way to survive. Malivore was destroyed when Hope killed Landon, leaving that storyline closed as well. So, does Landon’s only storyline have him once again linked to Hope?

Landon and Hope’s relationship has been ingrained into the fabric of Legacies, so their connection will likely continue to remain an integral element of the show. However, that does not mean that Landon’s only or central storyline needs to revolve around Hope or involve her needing to save him.

It is time for Legacies to kick it up a notch with Landon and allow him to be a more valuable member of the Super Squad. Give him stronger bonds with other characters, and create more meaningful relationships with people outside of Hope.

By intertwining Hope and Landon so tightly, it only hurts both of them. Hope has had plenty of storylines outside of Landon, and considering the “real Landon” had not been involved for most of season 3, Hope did plenty of growing without him. But, at the same time, Landon was stuck in Malivore’s void.

Legacies have used Landon’s temporary deaths many times to evoke emotional reactions, and it has grown tired. Instead, allow Landon to become a more prominent force or acknowledge that his strengths may not be in helping to fight, and he may be better helping strategy-wise.

Suppose Legacies wants Landon Kirby to be considered someone significant to the series as a whole, rather than just to Hope. In that case, the show needs to separate them and give Landon a stronger tie to the supernatural community in the other main characters.

Rafael is gone, and Landon may need a new and robust connection to someone else to play the best friend role, someone to confide in other than Hope. Tying the duo so closely together is dangerous as it can prevent growth in both their respects.

Hope has friendships with the Super Squad outside of Landon, and while Landon may have them too, they are seen far less frequently, especially considering how long it has been since the “real Landon” has reunited with his friends.

Landon Kirby has the chance to forge exciting bonds with the friends he has not seen in a long time, as well as the newer additions, including Cleo, who he briefly met in Malivore, Ethan, and Finch.

There are several possibilities on how to push Landon forward on his own, and Legacies should take advantage of those opportunities.
