The 100: Second Dawn prequel has questionable future
CW president Mark Peidowitz stated in the upfronts earlier this year that The 100 prequel “is not done in any way, shape or form.” Despite this, there were still heavy discussions regarding it, which gave even the slimmest hope about its pickup.
When the prequel was passed up in May 2020, the possibility didn’t leave the tables quite yet. The series was scripted by The 100 showrunner and creator Jason Rothenberg. He wanted to further explore The 100‘s dystopian world by going back through history and maybe meeting the ancestors of popular characters.
The now-dead ( or nearly dead) prequel would’ve been titled, The 100: Second Dawn. It had its backdoor pilot, Anaconda, during the latter half of the seventh and final season of The 100 in September 2020. The series ended with Clarke and her small group of friends (minus Bellamy Blake) being the last of the human race, living out their final days peacefully.
The death of Bellamy Blake left many fans angry as he was killed at the hands of Clarke Griffin and didn’t have the proper ending as he should have. Yet, his death and legacy were remembered in the final episodes, especially with his sister, Octavia, who successfully stopped a violent war, so his death would have some degree of honor and justification.
As it turns out, he was right in his beliefs, although they sounded far-fetched and became part of a cult. His friends and loved ones simply could not accept and understand his perspective, but it is with the argument that they experienced the horrible terrors behind leader Bill Cadon and his Disciples and not the religious epiphany.
The contracts of the actors who appeared in the pilot, Iola Evans, Adain Bradley, and Leo Howard expired a year and a half ago, so was unlikely that they’d continue their roles in the prequel. Leo Howard became a series regular on another CW show, Legacies, in season three.
Warner Brothers have yet to shop for another potential outlet if the prequel takes a new home.
Will we see The 100 leads Bob Morley and Eliza Taylor together again?
For seven seasons, the pair portrayed Bellamy and Clarke as requitable heroes of the show. Together, they created chemistry like no other and Clarke became one of the first bisexual characters in primetime television.
But was The 100 the end for them working together?
As it turns out, Bob Morley casually announced at the FACTS Convention this past weekend that he and his wife Eliza Taylor will be starring together in a romcom. Production for the film is in its early roots, but hopefully, we will learn more about their new project as well as the film’s plotline soon.
