The long-awaited prequel to The CW’s post-apocalyptic drama, The 100, is apparently still very much in discussion behind the scenes at the network.

During its scheduling call this week, network president Mark Pedowitz updated reporters about the series’ status, which is still surprisingly unchanged over the past year.

“There are still discussions going on, it is not done in any way, shape, or form,” Pedowitz said. “The discussions are still happening,”

Back in January 2020, the prequel was in also discussion and “very much alive” according to network reports.  The backdoor pilot, Anaconda, aired during season 7 of The 100 and told the history of the devastating nuclear war that pretty much wiped out the existence of humanity; only the privileged were granted a survivor’s chance.  Additionally, the pilot gave the audience a glimpse of the beginnings of Grounder mythology, revealing that Callie Cadogan was the one who began the Grounder culture and its language.

The 100 officially ended its seven-season run back in September, concluding with one hundred episodes and all the heartbreak and joys that came with it.  On an interesting note, the finale was filmed just before the COVID-19 pandemic struck, so in a way, the show ended on an ironic real-world twist.

In the series finale, Clarke and her friends chose to end their existence together on a beach, following the Last War, which wasn’t so much a war as a test about how far the species has evolved. (It also featured Clarke reunitIng with Lexa – sort of – in the form of the mentor being who administered the test.

The original cast who portrayed Callie (Iola Evans), Reese (Adain Bradley), and Leo Howard (August) in the backdoor pilot will return to their roles if the series is eventually picked up.  The 100 creator Jason Rothenberg will also return as executive producer and showrunner,  partnering up again with The 100‘s executive producer, Leslie Morganstein, and Alloy Entertainment’s Gina Girolamo.
