Our favorite obsessive killer Joe Goldberg, played by original Gossip Girl alum Penn Badgley, is returning with another season of You on Netflix on October 15. In anticipation of this exciting new storyline and with the spooky season upon us, we bet fans will want to dress up as the unsuspecting character for Halloween. He’s easy enough to turn into a DIY costume because he wears normal clothes like a regular person walking down the street, which is probably why he’s so terrifying. You probably already have some of the items you’ll need to create this DIY Joe Goldberg from You costume, but just in case, we’ve gathered the supplies below.
Baseball Cap and Backpack
Every good stalker needs a baseball cap and a backpack on them while they’re out and about. The cap is to protect their identity, and the bag is in case you need to murder them like Joe does (spoiler alert). Luckily, this is just a Halloween costume, so you can use the cap as a way to keep yourself warm, and the backpack can hold candy.

Blue Button-Down Top With a White Undershirt
Joe looks like a pretty regular guy, so his clothing isn’t too flashy. He sticks to a neutral color palette and is either in a button-down shirt with an undershirt sticking out or a cable-knit sweater for those cold New York days. Now that he lives in California in seasons two and three of You, he’s opted for the former option more often than not, so we’ve picked out options of this look for you.

Jean Jacket
Though he’s no longer in New York, Joe probably gets cold out at night, killing people and stalking people, so he tends to have a jean jacket with him. Therefore, it’s only natural for you to carry one as well on Halloween night.

Pants With a Leather Belt
Joe keeps his look sophisticated, so instead of wearing jeans all the time, he’s usually wearing chinos or casual slacks with a leather belt. These are affordable enough that you might even wear them again after October 31.

Leather Boots
To keep up with his bookworm and stylish aesthetic, Joe doesn’t wear the latest Air Jordans but opts for a pair of leather lace-up boots. These are available in six colors, but we think Joe would go with the brown ones.
