Any candy lover knows the story of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Young Charlie Bucket goes inside the chocolate factory of chocolatier Willy Wonka and encounters adventures and charters along the way. The children’s novel is a dream of any candy lover that has been adapted into two successful films: Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory in 1971 and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in 2005. Now we are getting a new adaptation of the story, a prequel, set to be released in theaters March 17, 2023 with a well known cast attached to the story.

What to expect from the prequel

Even though the Charlie and the Chocolate factory prequel will not come till 2023, there is much information that has already been announced. The film is set to be released under the title Wonka.  Warner Brothers has put out a press release announcing that filming has starting in the UK for the film. They described the synopsis for the film as  “an origin story that explores the vivid, mythical beginnings of the imaginative young inventor before he becomes the renowned scrumdiddlyumptious Mozart of chocolate.”

With the filming for the film having started, it is exciting to know who is part of the film. The first addition has been Timothée Chalamet staring under the title role of Willie Wonka. Other additions to the cast include: Mathew Baynton, Jim Carter, Richard Fulcher, Paterson Joseph, Colin O’ Brien, Natasha Rothwell, Rakhee Thakrar, Ellie White, Keegan-Michael Key, Olivia Colman, and Rowan Atkinson.

The most intriguing thing to look forward to about the film will be learning about Wonka’s personality and character before he became the chocolatier we all know from an early beginning. While it is a different take on the childhood story we know very well, it is one that is bound to make a great film.
