Season 3 of In the Dark has been a mess in a lot of ways. It feels like we are watching these characters run around in circles getting nowhere. The relationships aren’t moving forward, Murphy Mason hasn’t grown as a character, even though it looked like she had for a bit, and honestly, we are no closer to figuring out who is after Jess or why. And honestly, we aren’t any closer to the police getting off of Murphy and her friends’ backs or just arresting them all and being done with it.

But in the eleventh episode of the season, it looked like all hope was finally lost for Murphy. Not only did she finally lose even Trey, who helped her kidnap a cop by the way, but Lesley turned her away with lies, using her blindness against her.

However, if there is one thing we can say about Murphy Mason, it is that when the chips are down she will find a way. And while everyone thinks she is crazy and unhinged, unable to deal with her grief over the loss of Jess, the fact is that she may actually be on to something.

With those friendship bracelets in hand, it looks like Murphy may have finally found a lead into the case that may be the answer to finding Jess. But at this point, the only people who know this are Murphy and us (the viewers).

In the Dark makes it seem like Murphy is unraveling, but she may have actually found the clue she needs to save Jess.

The problem with everything we have seen so far on In the Dark, since Jess went missing, is that it just feels like Murphy is the only one who hasn’t given up on Jess. And the fact is, they gave up with barely even a token search.

I get that everyone thinks Murphy is crazy. And in a lot of ways, her manipulation and abuse of others isn’t doing her any favors, but at the same time, she is the only person who has actually been trying to find Jess (or at the very least, the only person who hasn’t stopped).

Much like so many missing person cases, unless the story gets very big, maybe only one or two people care. People stop looking. These missing people just stay missing because either there aren’t enough people looking or there aren’t enough clues. Or as we are seeing here, people give up prematurely. It’s like this has become a forgone conclusion that Jess is dead and we don’t even know why that is the conclusion everyone has reached.

Maybe it’s me, but at this point, it is hard to stay mad at Murphy when we can understand her determination to find a person she loves. Even if no one else will help her, she is not going to give up on Jess.

But what did you think of “Match Point?” Do you think Murphy finally has a viable lead for finding Jess? Does anyone else think that In the Dark is doing a disservice to Jess? We want to know.
