Selena Quintanilla featured in new comic book series

Pop culture, girl power, and music meet in the newest comic book series “Female Force”. The TidalWave Comics collection  features the late Tejano artist Selena Quintanilla in it’s latest print and digital installment. The 22-page tribute will honor the star after a string of recognition the star has received as of recent months.. This is what you need to know about the star and the new  “Female Force: Selena” comic book.

What is the “Female Force: Selena” comic book?

As explained by TidalWave comic books in a press release, the mission of their comic books is to highlight influential female figures for the female audience that they target.

"They said in their statement: “We believe that it is important for readers to have inspiring role models, to learn about extraordinary individuals that have overcome challenges to make a difference in the world.”"

They have featured over 200 women including the likes of Kamala Harris, Michelle Obama, and Nancy Reagan. Selena is the first Latina figure and the first time the publisher releases a Spanish version of the comic.

While speaking about the uniqueness of “Female Force: Selena”, writer Michael Frizell said in the press release , “Writing about real people and real situations is always a challenge. As a writer, I want to tell a good story while staying true to the moment. So much has been said about Selena. I wanted to tell her story while bringing something new to it. I hope the readers – and her fans – enjoy what we’ve put together. ”

Who was Selena Quintanilla?

Selena Quintanilla was a Mexican-American artist who performed Tejano music and was in the prime of her time when she passed in 1995. She is credited for bringing her music into a mainstream market. As of recently, her memory was honored with a posthumous Grammy Lifetime Achievement award. Netflix also honored the star with a show about her life before her rise to fame.
