After four seasons, the supernatural and survival series, The Outpost has been officially canceled.  Its series finale will air Thursday night, October 7th.

The cancelation comes after failing ratings with the average not quite reaching a 0.05 demo and having about 420K viewers.  TVLine first reported the news Wednesday.   While The CW is not known to cancel its shows based on ratings alone, it might be partly due that The Outpost is produced by SyFy International, which is owned by NBCUniversal, and many CW shows are either produced by CBS or Warner Brothers.  Additionally, the network seems to center its focus on the DC franchise.

The Outpost follows Talon (Rachel Green), a young woman who is the last of her race called the Blackbloods.  Years after her village and family were killed, Talon sets off to travel to a fortress, known as The Outpost.  Along her journey, she discovers that she embodies a supernatural power and in order to not only survive but also to save the world from an obsessed religious dictator, Talon must learn how to control it or face devastation.

With the series finale, airing October 7th, the show will have a total of forty-nine episodes.  The first season premiered in the summer of 2018 and was garnished for its “cheap quality.”  Despite the criticism, The Outpost managed to find its footing on the acquired network.  During the Covid pandemic, production was shut down during the third season but resumed filming in July 2020.

The show was nominated for two Saturn Awards, the first in 2019 for Best Fantasy Television Series and the second in 2020 for Best Action Television Series.

Recently, The Republic of Sarah, another CW show was canceled after one season.  The premise followed a young high school teacher trying to fight for her town’s independence against a mining corporation.
