The future of Greylock is looking pretty grim. The CW has officially canceled its drama The Republic of Sarah after just a single season.

The series followed the story of a small New Hampshire town which declares its independence from the United States rather than allow a mining company to exploit a rich vein of a valuable ore that runs underneath the town. And a ragtag group of adults, led by a local history teacher named Sarah must work to keep their new country afloat.

In fairness, while this news is disappointing, it’s also not entirely surprising.  It’s true, The Republic of Sarah featured a wildly original premise. But it’s also one that often felt untenable in the long term – after all, no matter how charming the characters might be, there’s only so long anyone really wants to watch a drama that’s about things like water rights and power grids.

Series creator Jeffrey Paul King broke the news of the series’ end on Instagram last week, prior to its Season 1 finale on Labor Day.

“I’m sad to say the news is not good. The Republic of Sarah will come to an end on Monday with what will now be our Series Finale,” King wrote. “Thank you so much to everyone who watched and who let our little show into their lives. It means the world to us. Please tune in on Monday and help us say goodbye to Greylock.”

The show starred Stella Baker as the titular Sarah alongside an ensemble cast that included former Agents of SHIELD star Luke Mitchell as her estranged brother Danny; Reign’s Megan Follows as their ex-senator mother Ellen; New Amersterdam’s Ian Duff as Sarah’s potential love interest Grover; and Awkward’s Hope Lauren as Danny’s ex-fiancée and Sarah’s friend Corinne; and Hawaii Five-0’s Nia Holloway as Sarah’s roommate AJ.

Next. The Circle season 3 is arriving much sooner than we thought. dark
